Happy March, Sacramento! It feels like the city is finally shaking off the winter chill and leaning into that perfect Northern California spring. Between the blossoms starting to pop and the events calendar filling up, there’s a real energy in the air this week.

We’re especially excited about the return of some local favorites, from outdoor beer festivals to the arrival of the spring bunny at Arden Fair. It’s a great time to get out and remember why we love living in the 916. Grab a coffee and see what's happening around the neighborhood!

🥟 Gold-leafed glamour meets the perfect potsticker

806 L St, Sacramento

Frank Fat’s is a place that everyone in Sacramento knows and still loves to claim as their own. This James Beard awardee has been in the scene since 1939, blending mid-century elegance with a warmth that’s entirely personal.

While the honey walnut prawns arrive with a satisfying crunch, it’s the legendary banana cream pie that remains the non-negotiable finish to any meal. It is a white-tablecloth tradition that never feels stiff; just timeless.

Stopping in for a mid-week happy hour or celebrating a milestone? The impeccable service makes every guest feel like a regular.

🍯 Golden droplets and hand-poured beeswax treasures

2110 X St, Sacramento

For the last forty years, the Sacramento Honey Company, a family-run Midtown staple, has supplied the neighborhood with raw honey and hand-poured beeswax.

Their harvest of mountain wildflower honey offers complex notes of molasses and dark berries, ideal for a seasonal wellness boost.

You might find the founder’s granddaughter behind the counter, ready to help you pick out a delicate rose-shaped pillar! Hunting for a strawberry lip care kit or candle-making supplies? The space carries a sense of history and technical care where three generations of expertise continue to thrive.

🦉 A tiny neighbor visits campus

The Gist A young Great Horned Owl fledgling recently made its debut on a fence at Sacramento State. Wildlife experts and campus staff are asking everyone to admire the bird from a distance so it stays safe. While the university is known for its tall trees and active nests, this little one is still learning how to navigate the world on its own.

Why It Matters Giving our local wildlife space ensures these young birds can grow up healthy and undisturbed in our shared neighborhood trees. Wildlife officials remind visitors to keep noise levels down and avoid crowding the area while the fledgling gains its independence.

🎥 Sacramento Expands Citywide Camera Network

The Gist Sacramento police now have access to over 2,600 surveillance cameras across our streets and local businesses. This network includes nearly 200 license plate readers that help a department currently facing staffing shortages. While officials credit the tech with lowering crime rates, the program includes safeguards like audits and unique logins to prevent the data sharing issues seen in other California cities.

Why It Matters These tools help keep our neighborhoods safer and speed up investigations while balancing our community’s right to privacy and data security. Residents can now use the city portal to learn about different access levels or choose to register their own cameras.
