The best part of summer might be having more reasons to say yes to last-minute plans. This week brings free adventures, local flavors, and plenty of places to slow down and enjoy the city.

Whether you’re looking for something family-friendly or a night out, there’s a little something waiting nearby. Thanks for letting us help you find it!

🏛️ Free entry to SacState historic parks

*not an actual photo of the Passport

The Gist: California launched the California State Historian Passport on June 19, 2026, offering free admission for up to four people to over 30 historic sites through the end of the year. Over 80,000 people signed up on the very first morning of the announcement.

Why It Matters: This is a wonderful way for us to get outside and explore! Many of these landmarks have updated their exhibits to tell a more complete, honest history of California since most of us last visited on a fourth-grade field trip. You just need to sign up online by July 6, 2026, to grab your free pass.

A 20,000-seat stadium is rising at the Railyards

The Gist: Construction is underway on Republic Stadium, the new soccer-first home for Sacramento Republic FC in the long-dormant downtown Railyards. Crews are at work on the 31-acre site, building toward a 20,000-seat venue that would be the largest professional sports and entertainment arena in the region.

Why It Matters: The privately funded project, led by majority owner Wilton Rancheria, anchors the revival of a 237-acre stretch of downtown that sat mostly empty since 1994, bringing jobs and a year-round draw.

What's Next: Work continues through 2027, with an opening targeted for 2028.

🍖 Smoky backyard flavors for long weekends

8140 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento

Brody’s always brings the holiday smoke to Freeport, making your upcoming Fourth of July menu effortless. Book catering or settle on the patio: either way, we say order the Smokehouse Platter for the perfect mix of tri-tip and ribs. 😎

Add a side of the granny-apple coleslaw and a signature cocktail to round it out. Since they smoke everything fresh until it sells out, arriving early is the only real play!

🌱 Secrets growing behind the small storefront

5601 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento

East Sacramento has gathered at Talini's Nursery and Garden Center since 1976. While it looks modest from the street, the property opens into a massive green maze. It is the perfect stop to refresh your porch before mid-summer block parties begin.

Lou Talini stocks everything from organic vegetables to colorful garden art, including the 2026 annual flower of the year. If you are planning a visit soon, they great news is that they are open every day, including through the Independence Day holiday.
