If you’re from Sacramento, you already know Corti Brothers sandwiches just hit different.

We stopped by the other day and I’m not kidding, there had to be 50 people waiting. Total chaos. It was one of those lines where you start asking yourself, “Are we really doing this?”

But with Corti Bros, the answer is always yes.

The boys were excited, Katrina already knew exactly what she wanted, and I was just taking it all in. It’s not just a place to grab a sandwich. It’s a Sacramento staple. People chatting, orders flying, the deli guys moving like they’ve done this a million times.

And even with the line wrapped around, we had sandwiches in our hands in under 15 minutes.

That’s what makes it so good. No shortcuts, no drop in quality, just really great sandwiches made fast, with that old-school deli feel you can’t fake.

We got back in the car, unwrapped everything, and for a minute it was completely quiet. And if you’ve got kids, you know that’s the highest compliment.

Great food, a local spot, and the whole family together. Pretty hard to beat. So if you haven’t been in a while, it might be time to get back in line. Trust me, it moves fast.

👶 Diapers on the house for local families

The Gist: Starting this summer, California is launching the Golden State Start program to provide 400 free diapers to newborns at participating hospitals. This initiative, a partnership with the nonprofit Baby2Baby, aims to support families immediately upon discharge. The program will first roll out at hospitals serving many Medi-Cal patients before expanding across the state.

Why It Matters: By providing these essentials right at the hospital, the state is helping local families focus on bonding and health during those precious first days at home. The program is scheduled to begin at participating locations starting in Summer 2026.

🌉 Stitch Park plan gets $3.15M boost

The Gist: Congresswoman Doris Matsui announced last week that she helped secure $3.15 million in federal funding for the proposed Sacramento Stitch Park, a long-discussed concept to build a park over a section of Interstate 5 connecting downtown to the Old Sacramento waterfront. The money is for engineering and design, not construction.

Why It Matters: Mayor Kevin McCarty said the funding finally gives the city something to bring into bigger conversations about full project costs. It's a small piece of a much larger price tag, but it's the first concrete movement on a project locals have talked about for over a decade. The city has not released detailed plans or a construction timeline yet.

🏮 Inspired by a matriarch’s kitchen

1829 17th St, Sacramento

Chu Mai is Chef Billy Ngo’s heartfelt tribute to his mother, balancing contemporary polish with a deep, lived-in warmth. The room’s soothing greens and floral murals offer a quiet escape from the rising Sacramento heat.

Start with the signature pork pâté toast on a crisp Chinese doughnut before diving into the crab-pork-tomato ragu. With strawberry season arriving, keep an eye out for bright, botanical desserts featuring coriander and pink peppercorn, too.

🌿 A neighborhood nursery rooted in Oak Park

3500 Broadway, Sacramento

The Plant Foundry is the quiet heart of Oak Park’s Triangle District, where environmental horticulture meets a genuine love for the neighborhood.

The woman-owned nursery is a favorite for California natives, spring perennials, organic edibles, thoughtful gifts, and a few unexpected finds. You can wander the rows of plants, browse punchy new magnets with a bit of bite, or grab a chilled, plant-based Narra oat milk tea for your stroll.

The staff offers expert guidance without making you feel overwhelmed, whether you’re picking out something for your yard, a patio pot, or a gift for someone who loves green things. It’s an easy stop when you want a little inspiration and a local spot that feels rooted in the neighborhood.
